UV Masterbatches

Overview

UV Masterbatches are specialized additive concentrates formulated with UV stabilizers and absorbers dispersed in a polymer carrier resin. They are designed to protect plastics from degradation caused by ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can lead to discoloration, surface cracking, and loss of mechanical properties. By incorporating UV masterbatches, manufacturers extend product life, enhance outdoor durability, and maintain aesthetics and performance under prolonged sunlight exposure.

Physical & Chemical Properties

  • Active Ingredients: UV absorbers, hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), and antioxidants.
  • Carrier Resin: PE, PP, PS, PET or universal resins for broad compatibility.
  • Appearance: Free-flowing pellets, often transparent or slightly tinted.
  • Thermal Stability: Suitable for processing temperatures up to 300 °C.
  • Lightfastness: High—retains color and physical integrity even in outdoor conditions.
  • Weather Resistance: Protects against UV-induced oxidation, embrittlement, and fading.

Applications

  • Agricultural Films & Nets: Prevents brittleness and extends service life.
  • Packaging: Protects light-sensitive products such as food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Automotive & Construction: Durable protection for parts exposed to sunlight (dashboards, outdoor panels, roofing sheets).
  • Fibers & Textiles: Enhances life of outdoor fabrics, tarpaulins, and geotextiles.
  • Household & Lifestyle Products: Outdoor furniture, containers, and sporting goods.

Processing Techniques

  • Film Extrusion (Blown & Cast) – agricultural and packaging films.
  • Injection Molding – automotive and consumer products.
  • Blow Molding – bottles and containers with UV-sensitive contents.
  • Sheet & Profile Extrusion – roofing sheets, profiles, and outdoor construction products.
  • Fiber Extrusion – textiles, nonwovens, and nets.

Sustainability

  • Extended product lifespan reduces plastic waste by minimizing premature failure.
  • Energy and resource savings through longer-lasting outdoor applications.
  • Compliant with food-contact and eco-safety regulations (heavy-metal free).
  • Compatible with recycling streams, maintaining UV protection in reprocessed plastics.
  • Available in bio-polymer and recycled carriers, aligning with circular economy initiatives.
