Vapour Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI)

Overview

Vapour Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) Masterbatches are advanced additive concentrates designed to protect metal components from rust and corrosion during storage and transportation. By releasing active vapor-phase corrosion inhibitors, these masterbatches create a protective molecular layer on the surface of metals, preventing oxidation without direct contact. They are widely used in packaging films, bags, and wraps for industries where corrosion protection is critical.

Physical & Chemical Properties

  • Active Ingredients: Proprietary organic salts and amine-based vapor corrosion inhibitors.
  • Carrier Resin: LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP or custom carriers compatible with packaging resins.
  • Appearance: Free-flowing granules, typically translucent to light-colored.
  • Protection Range: Effective up to several meters within sealed packaging.
  • Metal Compatibility: Suitable for ferrous (steel, iron) and non-ferrous (aluminum, copper, brass) metals.
  • Shelf Life: Long-lasting protection, typically 12–24 months depending on storage conditions.

Applications

  • Industrial Packaging: Films, bags, and shrink wraps for metal parts and components.
  • Automotive & Aerospace: Protection of spare parts, machined components, and assemblies.
  • Electronics & Electricals: Corrosion-free storage of sensitive electronic components.
  • Engineering & Machinery: Long-term storage of tools, bearings, fasteners, and equipment.
  • Defense & Marine: Packaging of weapons, marine hardware, and offshore equipment.

Processing Techniques

  • Film Extrusion (Blown & Cast) – VCI films, bags, and wraps.
  • Injection Molding – containers, caps, and protective housings.
  • Sheet Extrusion & Thermoforming – trays, clamshells, and separators.
  • Blow Molding – VCI bottles and rigid packaging solutions.

Sustainability

  • Reduced need for oils, greases, and secondary protective coatings, lowering environmental impact.
  • Non-toxic, nitrite-free formulations safe for workers and end-use environments.
  • Recyclable carrier resins maintain compatibility with existing recycling streams.
  • Resource savings through extended shelf life of metals, minimizing waste from corrosion damage.
  • Customizable bio-based carrier options available to align with circular economy goals.
